Sweet Saturday # 4 - Recipe for English trifle

The perfect dessert for a summers day. Heavy with ripe sweet fruit.

English trifle

Sponge fingers
2 tbsp Custard powder
1 pint Milk
2 tbsp Sugar
Soft fruit (raspberries, strawberries, mandarins etc)
Fruit juice
450ml double Cream

Chopping board, knife, saucepan, jug, wooden spoon, tablespoon, whisk, mixing bowl, glass dish, palette knife

  1. Line base of dish with sponge fingers
  2. Peel and slice the bananas and place over the sponge
  3. Pour over the fruit juice
  4. Wash and prepare soft fruit and place over bananas
  5. Heat milk
  6. Mix custard powder with sugar and little milk in jug
  7. Pour warm milk over custard powder
  8. Return to heat and stir until thick
  9. Pour over the fruit
  10. Chill until custard is set
  11. Whisk cream until stiff
  12. Spread over custard
