Recipe for cheese and tomato flan

Cheese and tomato flan


  • 150g plain flour
  • 50g margarine
  • 25g butter
  • 125ml cold water
  • 1 onion
  • 100g bacon or tomato
  • 100g cheese
  • 2 eggs
  • 125ml milk
  • Salt and pepper to season
  • Tomato to garnish

Measuring jug, fork, round bladed knife, mixing bowl, 18cm flan ring, teaspoon, tablespoon, palette knife, baking tray, chopping board, sharp knife, rolling pin, small saucepan

  1. Preheat oven to 190oc or gas mark 5
  2. Put flour in mixing bowl and rub in fat until it resembles fine breadcrumbs
  3. Add cold water a little at a time and mix with round bladed knife to form a stiff paste
  4. Put dough onto floured surface and roll out to 0.5cm thick
  5. Line flan ring with the pastry and place on baking tray
  6. Grill bacon and cool chop into small pieces or slice tomatoes
  7. Peel and chop onion fry until soft
  8. Grate cheese and place into the pastry case and cover with either the bacon or tomato
  9. Add onion
  10. Beat the eggs and milk together in a measuring jug with a fork
  11. Season and pour over the cheese and bacon
  12. Place slices of tomato on top
  13. Bake in the oven for 40 mins
  14. You can also try baking them in smaller individual tins (shown below) just reduce the cooking time by 10 minutes.
