Tutorial Tuesday - how to make a pumpkin pencil topper

You cant help but already feel the effects of Autumn and so of course my mind turns to all the Autumn and Halloween craft ideas I have had storing up in my mind and my pocket diary. This is a cute way to get in the seasonal mood and can be adapted to create all sorts of toppers on a theme. I love working with felt in this way and the bright orange just called out to be made into a pumpkin pencil topper.
To make the pumpkin pencil topper you will need;
scissors,
orange felt cut into two pumpkin shapes about 3 cm across,
 small scrap of green or brown felt for the stalk,
a pencil to top,
a needle,
some black embroidery floss
two small black buttons.

 First sew the grooved lines of the pumpkin on one side of the orange felt using two strands of embroidery floss and backstitch

 Then sew on the buttons for eyes and add a scary mouth using chain stitch.

 Then pin the two pieces of orange felt together and blanket stitch around then remembering to leave a hole at  the bottom of the pencil to go.

 Finally stitch a scrap of green or brown felt on the top as a stalk. You can use pinking shears to give a leafy look.

 Then top your pencil and have a happy Halloween.
