Scrap booking - American road trip

I got some great feedback from the last scrapbook page I shared with you, so I thought I'd share a page from my new project. I went on a road trip around America with my then fiancee when I was 21. We had such a great time on that trip I wanted to preserve the memories in a special way. It's only taken me 14 years to get around to it!

Gluten free No cook fudge recipe

This is definitely one for people with a sweet tooth. A great recipe to make with children as it is a no cook fudge. No boiling sugar and sugar thermometers to contend with. Packaged up it would make a great gift for teacher for the end of class.

Cross stitch fashion illustration, girl with red lips.

I have been working on some new designs for my Etsy store recently. I have looked back at some of fashion illustration work and have stared turning them into cross stitch patterns. Tweaking them here and there. I wanted to share the first one I have listed in my Etsy store I call her girl with the red lips.

This is the original drawing, I have just scanned it into the computer, if you look closely you can see the pencil drawing underneath. This is how I like to do my illustrative work. Work lightly first in pencil them make bold line with either a fine liner or pen and link. I do love a jet black outline.

Gluten free Carrot and orange salad with cumin and pumpkin seeds recipe

I love summer salads but can find I get stuck in a rut eating the same salads and using the same dressings. So I've been on the lookout for new flavors to excite the family over the summer. This is definitely a winner. The the sharp citrus tang and a hint of spice from the cumin it can transport you to distant lands in one fork full.

Lego party

My eldest boy is so ridiculously into lego. It is everywhere in his room, despite me making lots of storage for it. He plays for hours with it and when he's not playing with it he is talking about it. So it was inevitable that he would ask for a lego party for his birthday.

Free cross stitch comic book 'Bang' PDF pattern

As my boys have got older they have grown out of wanting alphabet samplers and cute animals hanging in their rooms, but my desire to stitch decorative things for them has not gone away. Now they are into Marvel and DC comics I have had to move with the times and came up with this cute comic book inspired 'bang'. It would look great stitched up and framed but equally sewn onto a throw pillow or on the back of a hoodie.
Hopefully you'll have a comic book fan in your life too and can stitch up a treat for them.

Gluten free Fruity creamy slaw recipe

Gluten free Fruity creamy slaw recipe

I don't know if you have come across the sprializer trend yet, unless you are perhaps a gluten free eater like myself. I bought one after getting my diagnose as a coeliac and was looking for alternatives to the gluten free pasta and noodles which I had found so disappointing. This was the answer, not only can you make great noodle from it but it's also great for making salads. This slaw was a real hit with my family and it's low fat and nutritious. Bonus!

Ultra suede no sew play road

Ultra suede no sew play road

I love working with ultra suede for the same reasons I like working with felt. You can cut it without frying, it's soft and it comes in a great range of colors. The added bonus about ultra suede is it's tough. Which made it perfect for this project. My boys love to play cars and like nothing more than to be lay on the playroom floor pushing cars around the play mat. But what happens in summer when I want to get outdoors? How can we still play cars on the play mat? Yes we could take the play mat out side but in our garden the cars tend to be the bigger dump truck varieties and I didn't want to wreck the at.

So here is my solution.

  • I cut out road sections from ultra suede wide enough to fit two lanes of dump truck traffic.
  • I cut a combination of straight roads, bends, junctions and a large roundabout.
  • Then I painted them with fabric paint for an authentic look.

The beauty of this road is they can rearrange it, take it anywhere as it folds up into a small bag and it's washable.
Days in the garden here we come!

Sewing directory - winning bag design

A while ago I wrote about a competition I won with  The sewing directory to come up with a design that could be digitally printed onto a bag. I chose one of my summer designs that I sell in my Spoonflower shop called 'Buttercups' and it was chosen as a winning design

I have now received my bag and I'm absolutely delighted with it.
It's going to look great all summer and I can't wait to use it at the beach.

Five great black banana recipes

I am proud supporter of the Love Food Hate Waste campaign and find it shocking and appalling at what we throw away each day. Supermarkets are massively to blame for this and we have developed a suspicious culture towards our food. If it's not looking it's best we want to throw it in the bin and that is terrible. One item, I know a lot of people throw away is the black banana. I know you all have one or two lurking in the fruit bowl and even the bravest fruit eaters sometimes can't be tempted by it favoring a yellow one. Never fear do not throw them make them in to something delicious. Black bananas are the best for baking with as they give the most flavor and I've got five great recipes to use them in.

Scrapbooking - holiday page

Scrap booking is something I am fairly new to. At first it didn't appeal to me as I have always enjoyed just sticking my photos in albums. But with the dawn of the digital photo, we seem to be doing that less and less. Often looking at the photos straight away, storing them on the computer and rarely looking at them again. That is when scrap booking started to speak to me. Especially now I have children, it's a way to savor those special memories, combined with mementos or little stories, they are the things we want to get out and look at as a family.
