Baking recipes collection

As the weather turns colder, my thought always turn to food. I find great comfort and warmth in food and especially in baking. I find nothing more delightful than the heat of the oven, the sweet smells emanating and the warm satisfaction of filling my belly with something homemade. If you also want to share in the warm fuzzy glow of home baked goods, you can do not better than to check out my Pinterest board of my baking recipes.

Blackwork embroidery

I love the simplicity of working with just one colour. It took me a while to catch on to the embroidery style of black work, but I have since enjoyed stitching and designing with blackwork.
I love how the patterns can be used to add texture and give the illusion of three dimensions to your stitched work.
If you feel like having a go at black work, I would recommend looking at my Pinterest board as a good staring point. There are links to some good tutorials, inspiring images and a few of my designs.

You can also check out my free patterns page as I have listed a couple of blackwork patterns on there for you.

Cauliflower cheese soup recipe

We are big fans of cauliflower cheese in the Cartwright house hold. It is comfort food at it's best. But sometimes, old favourites can do with being re-thought and this soup has become the go to recipe for 2015 when we want something so satisfying and warm it's like a big bear hug.

Halloween party decorations and food

I just thought I would do a quick round up of all the Halloween food and decorations I made for last year's celebrations.

I kept the colour scheme simple and went for purple and black as my main colours. I used a large piece of purple fabric for my table cloth and cut a black vinyl spider web to decorate it.

It's easy to get caught up in crafting for the Holiday's especially if your like me and have a whole heap of things you want to gift at Christmas. However it is nice to create of the moment seasonal crafts too, and I love to involve my boys in this. If this is something you like to do also, check out my Autumn / Fall crafts board on Pinterest.

Fabric Pumpkins

Decorating for Autumn (fall) isn't something that I have really done before. But since moving into our new house and inheriting some lovely pieces of furniture I couldn't resist adding a little seasonal decoration around the house.

Do you know Spoonflower? It's a great website which allows you to design and print your own fabric. It is also a great place to shop for unique and original designed fabric as many of the designers list their work in their own little store. They also run a weekly design competition and I love to take part as it often make me design things I wouldn't normally draw.

The latest competition is entitled Microbes. This was the brief:

It's time to dust off that microscope and show us your best microorganism themed design! Microorganisms (or microbes) are incredibly diverse and can be found in every part of our biosphere. Adaptable to any conditions, thriving wherever they are? Sounds like we could all learn a thing or two from these tiny microbes!

Cross stitch Christmas pudding alphabet

I was so excited to hear that my Christmas Pudding alphabet from my Etsy store was going to featured in this months issue of Cross stitch Crazy magazine. It is one of my favorite publications and I couldn't wait to get my hands on a copy.

I'm really hoping this will boost my sales this year, as I know lots of people read Cross stitch Crazy magazine and there is still plenty of time to get my Christmas Pudding pattern and stitch it up for Christmas.

The excitement didn't fail me and they did a lovely write up about my pattern.

Rocket 1st Birthday card

How cute it this 1st birthday card?
I loved using this rocket themed paper to make my nephews card. I picked out a larger rocket and mounted it on foam pads as the main motif and then added a coordinating 1.
To finish it off I added a glittery happy birthday sticker and a gift sticker on the envelope. I was really pleased with how well my simple idea worked out.

Although, it's a fact that not all species of cephalopods produce ink. With more than 800 species of cephalopods, that's a lot of inspiration to draw from!
