Spoonflower design competion, Love is in the air

Do you know Spoonflower? It’s a great website which allows you to design and print your own fabric. It is also a great place to shop for unique and original designed fabric as many of the designers list their work in their own little store. I have a store on Spoonflower and would love it if you took a look.

They also run a weekly design competition and I love to take part as it often make me design things I wouldn’t normally draw.

The latest competition is entitled Love is in the air.
The brief was to:

‘Create a love-inspired and weather-centric design! Clouds, wind, rain, sun, birds and bees! With Valentine’s Day and National Wedding Month upon us, love is certainly in the air! Designs must include elements of weather and love.’

I went with a bight blue Summer sky filled with heart shaped balloons and bubbles. That pop and spell ‘love’. What I like most about this design is the simple colour pallet limited to four colours. What do you think?
If you like my design please pop over to Spoonflower and vote for me. Voting opens today.

Free cross stitch pattern, Black taxi

Sometimes I list things on Etsy and for whatever reason they don’t sell. I like to give each pattern five tries at selling and if they don’t I move them to here to give away for free. Thankfully, this is the first pattern I have had to do this to. I hope you enjoy this iconic black taxi pattern. Perfect for any car lovers or fans of this Nations capital.

It’s perfect for beginners too! Don’t be put off by the size of the pattern as it uses only full count stitches and only one colour.

Art Nouveau inspired prints

I use floral imagery a lot in my design work and I think my biggest influence has to be the Art Nouveau movement. I love it use of colour and it’s combination of intricate and simple patterns. William Morris is a favourite of mine and I have various bits of his work around my house. It was one of his pieces that inspired me to create these bubble flower prints.
These collection of bubble flower prints can be purchased on fabrics from my Woven Monkey store for UK buyers and from my Spoonflower store for USA buyers.

You can also purchase them on prints and a range of other goods from my Redbubble, Zazzle and Society 6 Stores.

If you fancy stitching up a coordinating cross stitch there is also a pattern now available via my Etsy store. It’s a digital PDF that you can download and print today, so there would be now time to wait in having your own bubble flower.

I do hope you like seeing what I am currently working on and that you enjoy the updates on my creative life.

Free cross stitch pattern, little boat

How cute is this little boat? Right now I could just imagine sailing away on it. As we battle with the cold weather and the runny noses it seems like the perfect getaway. I can also imagine this boat being the perfect accent to finish of a nursery. However you choose to use it, I hope you enjoy my free pattern. Happy stitching.

If you like my free patterns, don’t forget to check out my free patterns page where I keep a handy archive of all my free patterns arranged into seasonal and themed groups. Also check out my Etsy store where I sell a wide range of patterns.

Free cross stitch pattern, Calligraphy frame

I often find when working on a small motif in cross stitch I want to add a frame to it to make it suitable for a card or just to add something extra special. This calligraphy inspired frame does just that. Use it portrait or landscape to add a bit of class to your stitching and make some thing extra special for someone. Why not use it in combination with one of my heart designs, you can find them in my cross stitch patterns page and make a gift for a loved one this year. Whatever you use it for I hope you enjoy stitching another of my free patterns and continue to stop by Craft with Cartwright to see what else I have made for you to enjoy.
