I Sea Pasta recipe and review

Review for I Sea Pasta.*

Being a coeliac I am always interested to see new products come onto the market. I am a lover of pasta and have found that there is much variation to the quality of gluten free pastas. Some has the consistency of leather even when cooked for an age and some just end up dissolving in the water. I know some coeliacs that have decided to go completely grain free and have looked for other ingredients that can offer similar properties. This might be the product for them.

So I was sent a packet of I sea pasta the other day to try out. It is packaged up to give the impression of pasta and is even called Tagliatelle yet the sole ingredient in it is seaweed. In fact it is just seaweed chopped from where is was grown. No processing for shaping involved it just happens to look a lot like green pasta.
My children and my husband eyed the packet suspiciously as I started to prepare dinner. I cooked the I sea Pasta in boiling water and made a simple tomato sauce to top it.
To make the tomato sauce you will need:
  • 1 tin of chopped tomatoes
  • 1 white onion, chopped
  • I tbsp. of tomato puree
  • 1 garlic clove, crushed
  • 1 tsp of mixed herbs.
  • 1tbsp of olive oil

  1. Fry the onion and garlic, gently in the oil for 5 minutes until soft and clear.
  2. Add the tinned tomatoes, tomato puree and mixed herbs.
  3. Cook for 10 minutes until the sauce has reduced and thickened.

As I made the sauce the I see pasta was cooking in another saucepan a salty sea smell filled the kitchen and my husband had to leave the room because of the smell. I didn't mind it but it wasn't what I was expecting.
As you can see it cooked up well and does look a lot like tagliatelle. Our verdict on the I sea Pasta. Well the house was divided, hubby refused to eat it as he said the smell had put him off, the youngest tried it and didn't like it. I didn't mind it and would eat it if it was cooked for me. My eldest loved it and ate all his enjoying the seaside flavour it gave to the dish. So it was a hit with him, but we probably would stick to traditional pasta in the future.

    1. They do a whole range of seaweed stuff, if you are a fan it's definitely worth a look.
