This week in Creative Corner I am pleased to be sharing the work of another creative who sells through Conscious crafties, which is a selling platform for people living with Chronic Illness, Disability or Caring for a loved one. There are a wonderful range of arts and crafts available and it is really worth a look. So please read on and find out about Isabella’s creative world.
1. Introduce yourself.
Hi I’m Leanne, a mum of 2 children, 2 beautiful daughters and I’m the owner of Isabella’s Creative World
2. Tell us a bit about Isabella’s creative world.
Isabella’s Creative World is a place where people can get unique gifts. It originally started of with just crocheted items for sale but over time, I went into some more crafts and have since added them to my shop
3. What made you start your own business?
I started Isabella’s Creative World in 2015 as I was pregnant with my first child and I had no money coming in as my partner at the time was working, so I wanted something what me and my child could be proud of and I also wanted to make my mum proud as she passed away in March 2015.
4. Did you have any formal training or are you self-taught?
I am self-taught in crocheting although I had a little lesson learning the basics but other than that I have taught myself.
5. Explain your creative process.
When I decide on a new product, I either look through the books and magazines I have or search the internet but while I’m looking I’m thinking of 2 things and they are:
– Will I use it?
– Will my children benefit from it?
Or if I see a pattern what I think is going to be popular, I decide to make it.
6. Describe your typical day.
My typical day is just like a normal person’s day. As I stay at home most of the time, I do my housework first and then once that is finished, the rest of the day is dedicated to my business whether that it by crocheting or creating items using scrabble art, typographys or Cross stitch
7. What’s your biggest seller?
My biggest bestseller has been the mermaid blankets and I like to make them as I like to see the different colours in what my customer chooses.
8. What have been the high and low points of running your own business?
The low points of me running my business was in November/ December 2015 was when I had to put the business as the last thing on my mind as my 1st daughter had been born and stayed in a Neonatal Unit.
The highs of running my business is that I can let my creative side out and make new products and to also see the images of happy customers using my items.
9. What would be your top tips for running your own creative business?
My top tips would be to be patient as success doesn’t happen overnight. It requires hard work and most importantly keep yourself as the first priority.
10. What are your aspirations for Isabella’s creative world ?
My aspirations is to try and have a better year than 2016 in terms of the sales and to also try and list some new items and a new range of items in 2018.
