Layered Mother’s day card design

Layered Mother’s day card design
I continued to get some good feedback from my cards, so I thought I would share this one with you today.

To make this card I started with

  • An A5 fold of cream card stock.
  • I then cut a smaller rectangle of pale blue with cream spot and stuck that on
  • Then I added a floral accent strip
  • Finally I added the layered floral arrangement on top. These were just a press out scrap booking set, I used foam pads to make some of the flowers and the vase stand out.

Hand made Mother’s day card – How to.

I ran a Mother’s card making course a while back, but I know that Mother’s day fall later in the USA than here and since most of my readers are from across the pond I thought I would post some of my designs now.

To make this card

  1. First fold a creamy yellow background card into my desired size. I went for a taller card, but this design would suit any size really.
  2. Then I cut out four heart shapes from pink patterned papers to make the flower petals. I used two designs and cut two from each.
  3. I then glued them in place and drew my flower stem using a fine liner pen.
  4. I added a diamante in the center of my flower and two glitter leaf stickers further down the stem.
  5. Finally to finish, I stamped ‘Happy Mother’s Day’ in sage green in the bottom corner.

Handmade Mother’s day heart keyring gift and gift box

Here is another piece from my Mother’s day craft class I taught last week.

This is a smaller designed gift box and felt heart shaped key ring.

I topped my gift box with a paper rose which can be made simply by cutting a circle out of matching paper and then cutting a spiral to the centre. You then wind up the spiral and stick it when your happy with the shape.

I also used a scrap of the paper to make a matching gift tag using a punch and an eyelet. I think it really finished it off well.

To make a folded paper box you can find the instructions here.

To make the keyring:

  • Cut two heart shapes from red felt.
  • sew a smaller heart shape using chain stitch in the middle. You can read a tutorial of how to do chain stitch here.
  • Then sew seed beads around the chain stitched heart. I used alternate red colours.
  • Then cut a loop of red ribbon and pin this inside the two heart shapes at the top.
  • Blanket stitch around the hearts to secure. You can read a tutorial of how to do blanket stitch here.
