Top 7 Craft Books

These would be my top seven go to craft books.

As a crafter I am also a hoarder of things. I have drawers and tins stuffed full of supplies and a bookshelf rammed with reference books.

However, having spent the last few years earning very little. I have not be buying more stuff and now have come to love having less stuff.

So I have been whittling down my hoard and now am close to having refined my reference collection.

The stitch Bible

I love to hand sew and anyone who reads my blog will know I love embroidery. This book is the most comprehensive guide I have read without being far too technically boring. So when I’m tired of cross stitch, this is the book I go to to be inspired by new stitches.

Sew your own wardrobe

I loved the Sewing bee and a few years ago I set myself the challenge of sewing myself a new garment each month. I failed with the challenge but continue to love this book and the free patterns it comes with.

The Belle and Boo book of Craft

This book was given to me by my sister in law. I already loved the Belle and Boo illustrations and this is one of those craft books you can happily flick through and contemplate making something on a Sunday afternoon.

Kirsty Allsopp CRAFT

Kirsty seems to have become almost entwined with craft these days. Whether you like her or not, this book is a great reference book. Covering all manner of crafts it’s well laid out and beautifully crafted.

Martha Stewart’s Encyclopedia of Crafts

This is not my only Martha Stewart book, I will admit I also have the Encyclopedia of Sewing and fabric crafts. Both are great tomes of information and if you’ve got a question about a certain craft no doubt, Martha will have the answer.

Encyclopedia of Crafts: An A – Z Guide with Detailed Instructions and Endless Inspiration

Make me I’m yours…Just for Fun.

Another book gifted to me by my Sister in Law. I love this book for all it’s cheery makes. It’s perfect when your looking to make something for a birthday gift. Young or old there’s something to be made for everyone.

Plush You!

One of my oldest craft books and has been well used in my teaching too. I used to make soft toys with my lower school students and they loved getting inspiration from the weird creatures living in these pages. Some tutorials but lots of inspiration. Perfect if your interested in getting boys to sew.
